Novel Drug SourcingOur client, a global pharmaceutical company, was looking for a novel drug as comparator for a clinical trial. It had to be from 3 territories across 2 continents and they did not wish to disclose any trial information to the manufacturer.
We advised our client that sourcing in the first of the territories would not be a problem; the other two would be difficult because of the very tight control of this product by the manufacturer.
In the first territory we quickly sourced a single batch of the product with a long expiry date. In the second we had to collect the stock from several large national wholesalers. We accumulated the stock from one batch with a longer than expected expiry date. During the sourcing process, the manufacturer made a decision to restrict supply of comparators where the sponsor’s name was not revealed. This affected our sourcing in the third territory. Through our extensive network of audited and registered suppliers in several EU countries and with speedy communication we sourced the large volume of the product required without recourse to the manufacturer.
Our client was very pleased as we supplied everything they had required including Certificates of Analysis without having to provide any trial information to the manufacturer.
