Canadian Loggers

We were asked by our customer to source an interferon drug from Canada for use in a clinical trial. This is an ambient product in the UK, but our research uncovered that, unusually, the storage conditions in Canada were different and the product had to be kept between 2° - 8°C. This could have been overlooked had we not undertaken extensive initial research.

We worked with our specialist cold chain courier who, in the past, has organized shipments for us from challenging locations including China, India and Eastern Europe (in the middle of a very cold winter).

Once we had secured the product which had been in short supply, we used a validated temperature system addition to loggers for the initial part of the journey. This was guaranteed to keep the drug within range for at least 36 hours. We tracked the shipment during transit to ensure its journey time to the UK did not exceed 36 hours.

A refrigerated vehicle was standing by at the airport to collect the goods prior to delivery; the gel packs were then removed to prevent overcooling of the product. After the goods were checked at our warehouse and we ensured that all temperature records were compliant we then sent the drug onto our client in Europe by refrigerated vehicle. Temperature loggers were used throughout the supply chain to ensure the product had stayed within the correct storage conditions for the complete journey.

As always we maintained contact with the client, supplier and our cold chain courier which ensured that any potential problems did not occur and our client was very pleased with the “well travelled” product that was delivered on time and within specification.
