Drug DiplomacyA large biotech company was looking for six different oncology drugs as comparators for their trial.
We investigated all possible options for the drugs requested and, where available, offered our client both branded and generic options. Given the large volumes needed, there were only specific markets in the EU that could supply the product from stock and guarantee continuing supplies over a three year period.
Our client identified their preferences for the comparator drugs; choosing more branded than generic products and also identifying the countries from our recommendations they wanted us to source from.
Sourcing of the generic products was straight forward as the manufacturers didn’t require any trial information as a condition of supply. However purchase of the branded products was made difficult by one of the manufacturers insisting on trial information - including the sponsor's name - before they would release stock to us. After several days of negotiating with both the manufacturer and the client the manufacturer agreed to release the stock with limited information being provided.
We maintained complete anonymity for our client during the project and supplied all the comparators required as single batches with Certificates of Analysis on time.
